Construction Detailing

Enhancing the detail of the design to provide key information to local council queries was the focus of the construction detailing of these landscapes.

Turville Crescent

Year | 2024

The original deck, built to outdated standards, had suffered years of wear and weather. It was both unsafe and unwelcoming, boasting an impressive hole right by the front door. Creating a new deck was not only about the aesthetic, but about bringing back function and safety to the area.

With no engineering input required, the design was shaped by the relevant New Zealand standards and working with the site’s steep contours and existing retaining walls.

From the choice of materials to the joins of the timber connections, everything was considered for both cost efficiency and durability.

The finished deck now boasts an impressive entry to the home, while maximising the sunniest spot of the property. A once dangerous space has been transformed into the heart and pride of the home.

Ferry Street

Year | 2023-2024

The backyard began as a blank canvas of an underutilised, open space. The client provided the clear goal to transform it into a vibrant area, featuring a pool and built-in spa. With only the pool model provided, multiple design iterations were explored to determine the most effective layout.

The final plan positioned the pool as a striking focal point, visible from the home and overlooking balcony. Supporting structures were integrated to maximise usability, while the design worked within the site’s natural topography and met all council safety requirements for pool installations and fencing.

The completed space now offers a seamless blend of leisure, visual impact, and year-round functionality.

Silverstream Road

Year | 2023-2025

Starting from a required update to the entry to the home, the client decided to take the work further and get a complete masterplan of the landscape to work from for the years to come.

The result was a plan that boasted a strong access down from the road to the front door, and around and down to the lower section of the property. It also linked the existing garage area to the house in a safer manner. This flow of movement was used as the foundation for further design decisions, such as terraced walls to increase usability of the steep contours moving down the site, as well as a proper outdoor space for entertaining off to the side of the main entry.

Hanover Street

Year | 2023-2025

The rejuvenated entry to the Hanover Street property required detailed design to be undertaken for council acceptance of this portion of works to be undertaken.

Working in with the neighbouring property, who shared the landing to access their home, design decisions were made that benefited both client and neighbour to keep both parties happy. This included the design and spacing of the balustrading of the accessway, alongside the timber material used, helping to maintain consistency with the existing style that was not being replaced.
